Some of the topics we discussed became the poem below in I’m Not a Princess, I’m a Complete Fairytale. After reading her book, I decided to go back to school and Niv came to talk to my class. I realized life is not about feeling that way. I was stressed and unhappy and her words were the perfect balm to my soul. I met Niv while I was working as a nurse at the same hospital. Some of her poems have been used with at-risk youth who have shared their own stories and are now on the track to healing and recovery.Īs a woman, I feel l like many of us feel so trapped. Her second poetry book - I Am Not A Princess, I Am a Complete Fairytale - has been included in the syllabus of Peace and Justice Studies and Social Movements courses at Michigan State University and in Peace and Conflict Studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Nivedita Lakhera (endearingly “Niv”) is an assault and a stroke survivor that we should urgently take note of because her words can improve mental and physical health and well-being of others, and we swear by it! So, few of us decided to come together to share our experiences of how her poetry changed our lives and can just as certainly inspire and benefit you. Connection, intimate relationships, and the potent power and comfort in her poetry manages to acknowledge and validate the US! When many of us are simply existing and trying hard to survive.ĭr.
